ASUP calls off strike, Students resume Tuesday.

Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) has decided to call off the 11-month old strike. The reason for the strike was it's allegation that the federal government failed to implement the agreements reached with the union in 2009. After a brief meeting with the newly appointed Minister of Education, Ibrahim Shekarau, on Thursday (July 11th, 2014), a resolution was made to call-off the strike and resume academic activities promptly. According to Nigerian Tribune, Ibrahim Shekarau "assured members of the union that their issues would be expeditiously addressed in view of the importance the Federal Government attached to technical education in the country". The suspension is however for 3 months to allow the Federal Government meet with the demands of the union. Read More
