Early life and education:
She is the sixth of eleven siblings born in Ketu, Lagos State. Before she auditioned for the third season of Project Fame West Africa, she worked as a business promoter in Lagos. Born to disciplinarian parents, Chidinma discovered her singing talent when she was barely 6. When she was 10 years old, she joined the church choir. Currently Chidinma is studying sociology at the University of Lagos. Chidinma
was keen on studying mass communication but she had to sacrifice
her admission in the course for her advancement in the Project
Fame West Africa. She believes that although she had been
blessed with singing talent since childhood, she started taking
music more seriously after she won the competition.
Before she auditioned for Project Fame, she wanted to participate in a reality TV show in 2008. She left her home in Ikorodu and went to Ultima Studios which was the venue of the show’s auditions. She managed to be among the 8,000 contestants who moved further to showcase their talent on the show. Thereafter she advanced to the Fame Academy round with 17 other contestants and went ahead to win the competition.
One of Chidinma’s most noted performances was with Dr SID at MTN Power of 10 Concerts. She performed at Guinness World of More Concerts on 3rd November 2013 with Phyno, D'banj, P-Square, Ice Prince, Wizkid, Burna Boy, Davido Olamide, Waje and Tiwa Savage. Another famous performance of her has been at The Butterscotch Evening Experience held at Eko Hotels and Suites on 9th November 2013. Chidinma has given mesmerising performances in nations across Africa to include Ghana, Kenya, Sierra Leone, Equatorial Guinea, The Republic of Benin and Niger.
After releasing a collaborative project with other Project Fame West Africa finalists, she began working on her debut studio album. During the project she worked with several producers including Oscar Heman Ackah, WazBeat, Tee Y Mix and Cobhams Asuquo. She released “Jankoliko” and “Carry You Go” in February 2011. The Clarence Peters directed 3 minutes 33 seconds video for Jankoliko was released on June 4, 2011. October 2011 saw the release of Kedike, third single of the album.
On October 11, 2011, Chidinma released fourth single of the album, "Run Dia Mouth". Kedile’s video was again directed by Clarence Peters and went on for 3 minutes and 5 seconds.
Chidinma says that she is trying to get out of her comfort zone and try new things. She released her upcoming album’s lead single “Emi Ni Baller” on 14th September 2012. The song rose till seventh position on Vanguard’s list of “Top 10 songs that made 2013”. She released the remix of “Emi Ni Baller” that featured Wizkid in February 2013. June 2013 saw CAPital Dreams Pictures releasing the video of the same song which was shot in UK by Clarence Peters. She released “Bless My Hustle” in June 2013 which was produced by Tha Suspect.
Chidinma’s “Oh Baby” was released in September 2013 and within a span of few months, she released “Oh Baby (You & I) which featured Flavour N’abania. Both the songs were Young D’s production. On her birthday in 2014, she released Clarence Peters’ directed video of “Oh Baby (You & I).
Sex tape accusation.
A sex tape of Chidinma look alike surfaced on the internet in November 2013. Chidinma discredited the rumor and said that she was
awfully hurt by them. She accepted that her fan base increased due to the sex tape scandal but said that she felt devastated.
Chidinma has been the proud recipient of “Best Female West African Act” award in 2012. She beat Omawumi and five others to win the coveted award. She considers Michael Jackson, Alicia keys, Bob Marley, Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston Fela Kuti, Onyeka Onwenu and Lagbaja as her musical influences. Dammy Krane, a recording artist signed to Tuface's Hypertek Digital, played Chidinma's love interest in the music video. One of the recording artists signed to Tuface’s Hypertek Digital named Dammy Krane played the role of Chidinma’s love interest in the video.
